MOVING FROM CONVENTIONAL TO ORGANIC: WHAT IS THE LOCAL PAYOFF? Determining the Methods for Measuring the Economic and Fiscal Impacts Associated with Organic Crop Conversion in Iowa
AMES, Iowa -- Does it pay locally to help farmers convert their operations from conventional to organic crop production? Iowa State University economists offer some detailed answers, using as their model the unique Woodbury County plan to provide tax abatements for producers who transition from conventional to organic farming. The newly released study shows that the potential regional economic impact of organic crop production exceeds that of conventional crop production.

ZIP'ing and unZIP'ing does not require WinZip or any other add-on application in recent versions of Windows.
In an Explorer windows (listing files), RIGHT-CLICK on any given file, and a little menu pops up. (Don't adjust your monitor - I save tutorial screenshots in monochrome .JPG to save space and cut down on load times... it also prevents users from confusing examples that I post up with what Windows does in realtime)
Fig. 1
Click on Send To... and choose Compressed (zipped) Folder. (see Fig 1, above) - If you have no problems associated with .ZIP add-on applications, you'll creat a new .ZIP file in the same folder as the original file, ready to share, archive, whatever... DONE!
If you have ever installed WinZip (or any other add-on application to handle .ZIP or compressed files) you may eventually have problems with it (file association broken, expired license, failure to execute properly, etc...).
See Fig. 2, below for MY OWN RECURRING ERROR MESSAGE (*sigh*). Ever since (maybe before) Microsoft decided to embed the file compression utility in the Explorer functions, WinZip (and others) have seen multiple troubles with installation, uninstallation and program execution. Windows, too, begins to hiccup when handling .ZIP files... go figure... and just learn to work thru it.
Fig. 2
NOT TO WORRY... when *I* click on Yes, the .ZIP file is created anyway, and all is well... until next time. (Clicking on Yes doesn't necessarily fix the file association problem, but it does (for me) get me past the error, and the .ZIP file is created.)
One thing to do, to eliminate one possible sticking point, is to remove WinZip from your PC. If you have an expired version of WinZip, you'll want to do this, regardless of any other .ZIP issues you may or may not be experiencing. WinZip is NOT required - no matter how a ZIP file was created, the .ZIP file is (today, in almost every instance) a universally standardized format.
Want to make this simple?... CLOSE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU HAVE OPEN or RUNNING (except Windows itself) BEFORE YOU START THIS REMOVAL PROCESS
OK?... From the desktop, CLICK on your START button (not the Power button of your PC, no...), open your Control Panel and click on ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS
Fig. 3
Waiting for Add or Remove Programs to create an inventory of your system's "Currently installed programs" may take a while, so "Please wait while the list is being populated..."
Really. WAIT, and let the Control Panel applet do the job. If you get too impatient, go have a glass of filtered tap water and come back in a little while... if you didn't close down all your running programs, well... you may wait a little longer than most.
Fig. 4
When the list pops up, scroll to the bottom to find WinZip.
Fig. 5
Click on the REMOVE button and follow the instructions. You may have to re-start your PC to finish the job.
(REALITY CHECK - ADD/REMOVE is a good process to use, even if it doesn't ultimately fix this file association problem. If all else fails, once you have uninstalled WinZip, you can install a new evaluation version and limp along until Microsoft (and/or WinZip) gets their act together. ADD/REMOVE is recommended as a First Response for any sticky or annoying add-on you or your loved ones may have installed on top of Windows.)
If you have more or other troubles with .ZIP files, go to www.WinZip.com for help or use a search engine (do you Google?) to look for [zip windows problem remove winzip] - and good folks, I implore you...
IT IS A FUNKY WORLD WIDE WEB WE WANDER... When in doubt, DON'T DO IT.
Watch Out for garbage programs and PROTECT YOURSELF when you search the web - no matter how sexy the ad is ["Top Rated Windows ... Software"... "100% Guaranteed"], DO NOT download or install any unknown program "designed" to do this or that particular task for you... DO NOT respond to pop-ups which warn "YOU ARE (or MAY BE) AT RISK FOR INFECTION" or some other disease... many of these are come-ons designed to distract the unwary user, many are ads from folks who want to INFECT your PC with garbage (or worse). Go to a reputable source for your protection programs or advice.
