In Kansas City we are fortunate to have access to a number of Farmers Markets that only accept vegetable and fruit farmers who agree to grow using organic methods. Organic growers avoid the use of conventional fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, and other biocides, and strive to preserve the health of the living soil. In addition, the farmers at these markets who produce meat, eggs, and dairy products agree to avoid the use of synthetic growth promotants such as hormones and sub-therapeutic antibiotics.

Dedicated to providing a wide selection of organic and sustainably-raised local food, the Farmers’ Community Market has a lively mix of local and certified organic farmers with farm-fresh vegetables, herbs, bright flowers, and delicious meats, eggs, artisan and farmstead cheeses. Our farmers use sustainable and humane practices to produce hormone and antibiotic-free meats and truly free-range chicken eggs. The market also features locally roasted, organic and fair trade coffee, freshly prepared breads and baked goods (including vegan and gluten-free items), and the famous Brookside Breakfast Burritos. Organic, hand-crafted soap and artists with locally handmade crafts complement the market. Niles Garden is an educational and peaceful garden next to Niles Home for Children. We use organic no-till practices on our beds but don’t claim certification. We hope to be a model for beginning gardeners to learn sustainable urban agricultural techniques. Our market benefits Niles and the kids who work the garden.
