FILMS FOR ACTION - ONLINE FILMS - EXTENSIVE RESOURCES

Launched in November 2007, the new Films for Action website hosts a variety of features. If you want to watch films about sustainability, city solutions, peak oil, climate change, big media, relocalization, or anything else related to creating a more sustainable, healthy future, there's something there for everyone. Crude Impact movingly explores the broad range of destructive consequences from our enormous petroleum use, including the well-recognized issues of air and water pollution, global warming and climate disruption. It goes beyond these ecological issues, however, to explore the cultural impacts on indigenous societies in oil-producing regions of the world as well as the many geopolitical consequences, including repressive governments, civil conflicts, and wars.

The film also addresses the growing body of evidence that global oil and natural gas production are going to peak soon and begin to decline even though the global economy is dependent on growing supplies of cheap and abundant energy. What will volatile and much higher energy prices--and eventual supply shortfalls--mean for our way of life?

It wasn't the filmmakers' intention to simply illustrate the damage that results from our petroleum use, however. As they state on their website, "[t]he objective of the film is to promote positive, hopeful change in the way we source and use energy," and so they also explore what we could do differently in order to achieve a sustainable future.

We hope you'll join us to learn more and talk about these issues. Please try to bring someone with you who isn't already concerned about these issues.

ReEnergizeKC is arranging and hosting public screenings of the film Crude Impact (if you haven't seen the film, you can watch a trailer here).

In order to do this with the permission of the filmmakers, we need to pay a screening fee for each event by purchasing 3 DVD copies of the film at the regular price, which will cost us a total of $81.82 with shipping & handling. We would also like to be able to have fliers available at the showings for attendees to take home, so we'll need additional funds to pay for copies.

This is where you can help us, if you're so inclined. To support these film showings with your tax-deductible donation, please send a check made out to HAAL-ReEnergizeKC to P.O. Box 45195, Kansas City, MO 64171. As soon as we have enough donations to pay for the 1st screening, we'll arrange a time and place at which to show the film.

We also welcome your help in arranging for groups to host screenings of the film. In my experience, screenings cosponsored by other groups are typically better attended than those we've hosted without any partners.

Also, because we'll receive 3 DVD copies of the film for every screening fee we pay, we'll be able to loan our extra copies out to people so they can host private screenings for their friends and family members. We currently have 2 copies available, so you're welcome to contact me if you'd like to borrow one. There's no charge to do so, but we do ask for donations to cover postage costs.
